The Inside Scoop On Port St. Lucie County, Florida

Are you thinking about purchasing a retirement home in Port St. Lucie West? Port St. Lucie County in Florida is one of the fastest growing communities in the United States and the third fastest growing community in Florida.

Just like anything else there are advantages and disadvantages to moving to Port St. Lucie West which is where we purchased our retirement home. One of the disadvantages is that we are about fifty minutes from the airport. Another disadvantage is that we are quite a distance from most of the major chain stores, although I expect that will change soon because a housing development is now being built that will have well over a thousand homes.  The area is great for living in a relaxed, and slow paced lifestyle.

We purchased a single family home in a gated community and we couldn’t be happier. My husband has two first cousins that live here all year round and another first cousin who along with his wife are, like us, snowbirds, so we have enough people to socialize with.  It is always best when you have people you can socialize with already there, but of course you can always make new friends.

The advantage of moving to a growing community is that most of the area is new construction, so everything is new and well kept. There is a new Home Depot, WalMart and a Kmart. Of course, we also have the weather. My husband and I are from Long Island and we enjoy having the opportunity to live in an area that has seldom dropped under 60 degrees.

Prices are escalating in our community. We live in King’s Isle and we purchased a home with 2/2/2. When you see this listing it means we have 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and a 2 car garage. There are larger and smaller homes in our development and prices are escalating. We closed on this property on September 1, 2004 and our home has already appreciated by about $30,000. So if you’re thinking about it, try to make a decision soon. Real estate hardly ever depreciates.
