Visit The Wonderful Northwest Alabama Area

Alabama is commonly known as “The Heart of Dixie”. With so many misconceptions concerning the South, why would anyone want to relocate to the northwest part of the state? Well, all it really takes is one visit, and you just might decide to stay forever!

Northwest Alabama boasts the beautiful Tennessee River, rich musical history, champion golf courses, unique festivals, and many recreational sports. The cities of Florence, Muscle Shoals, Tuscumbia, and Sheffield comprise what is known locally as the quad-cities. The Tennessee River, which divides Florence from the other three cities, offers numerous recreational activities.

This mighty river is the home to several pro fishing tournaments. There are walking trails, camping areas, and plenty of riverside fishing opportunities. The river also plays host to festivals that celebrate the Fourth of July and W. C. Handy. The week long W.C. Handy festival invites visitors from all over the country to celebrate Handy’s birthday with plenty of jazz and blues, along with gospel and rock and roll.

Crossing over the river into the Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, and Tuscumbia area, tourists can still find plenty to see and do. Every summer, thousands of tourists and local residents attend the Helen Keller Festival in beautiful, historic Tuscumbia, Keller’s birthplace. Award winning musicians and artists entertain visitors for a long weekend in June.

The Alabama Music Hall of Fame Museum is also located in Tuscumbia, and the many exhibits tell the story of Alabama’s rich musical history, which continues today. The Music Hall of Fame also hosts several famous musical acts throughout the year, with concerts held outside.

Every fall, thousands of motorcyclists converge on Waterloo, Alabama, located close to Florence. This Trail of Tears ride commemorates the relocation of Native Americans in the early 1800s.

Robert Trent Jones, well-known for his spectacular golf courses, has recently designed two new courses close to Muscle Shoals. There are many other courses available for avid golfers to visit.

Northwest Alabama typically boasts gorgeous weather almost year round. Although, winter usually makes an appearance, it doesn’t hang around for long and is still typically mild when compared to more northern areas.

Housing and other expenditures are very economical in this part of the South. When compared to other areas of the country, housing costs are much less costly. Whether you are a retiree or a young couple starting out, you can easily find a beautiful and affordable home.

If you haven’t visited northwest Alabama, start making your vacation plans. Just don’t be surprised if you want to turn your vacation into something more permanent!
