About Venice
Venice Florida offers something for everyone including beautiful beaches, its quaint downtown shopping area and the old Florida scenery along the Myakka River. Venice is located in Southwest Florida, about 20 miles south of Sarasota along the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico. It is known for its beaches and the prehistoric sharks teeth that can be found here. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers founded Venice in 1926. The BLE hoped to build a planned retirement community in the area and hired renowned city planner, John Nolan, to plan the city. A famous landscape architect, Prentiss French, was also appointed to create the lovely open spaces in the city. The northern Italian Renaissance architectural theme was chosen and a town of grace and beauty began to grow along the golden sands and blue-green waters. Today, the city of Venice has many fine amenities, including a yacht club, community center, community theater and professional dinner theater, an art center, library and many fine restaurants.
Real Estate
Venice has many island communities full of carefully planned, new Mediterranean style architecture, single family homes and other kinds of properties. The fastest-growing type of Florida housing is the Villa. Villas are priced $170-220,000 in the Venice area. Venice, Florida abounds in beautiful architecture and natural beauty and splendor.
Weather
South Central Florida, along the Gulf Coast near the south end of Tampa Bay, experiences warm weather with lots of sunshine year round. During the months of June through September, it is hot and humidity hovers around 50 percent or higher. Although this sounds high, Gulf breezes help to moderate temperatures and virtually every structure in Florida is equipped with air conditioning. The rainy season is from late May through October. You can expect almost daily thunderstorms during this time, but they dissipate quickly and within minutes the sun is shining again.
