The Catskills

A Postcard From The Catskills, NY
Living in a riverside cabin in The Catskills holds many great elements of relaxation.  We fish, hike and explore acres of undeveloped land.  The Catskills area is our secluded getaway!

About The Catskills
The Catskill Park is a mountainous region of public and private lands in Ulster, Green, Delaware and Sullivan Counties. With over 98 peaks over 3,000 feet, the Catskills has an impressive skyline. Its blend of public and private lands is typical of large parks in Europe, where people and unique lands have coexisted for centuries. This special and often remote mountain landscape was only occasionally used by Native Americans. Later it was settled and heavily exploited by the Dutch, English, Irish and Germans. Its rich history includes logging, blue stone quarrying, leather tinning, wintergreen and blueberry harvesting, trapping, fishing, mountain house tourism, railroads, and even World War II pilot training. Over 60% of the lands in the Catskill Park are privately owned, the homes of about 50,000 year round residents; the rest is publicly owned " forest preserved. "

Real Estate
Beautiful, affordable, friendly and just 2 hours from New York City are the reasons more and more New Yorkers are choosing The Catskills for their second home getaway.  The Catskills has pretty much has everything you're looking for - lake homes, mountain cabins, riverside cottages, farms and other down home country properties.  Recently the buyers market has begun to pick up, with many new homes becoming avalible.

Weather
There are two distinctly different climate zones within the Catskill Mountains: one extends to the south and east of the highest elevations and the other to the north and west of the high peak region. The latter climate zone is, by far, the more unusual of the two. The summer climate is cool in the Adirondacks, Catskills, and higher elevations of the Southern Plateau.

Things To Do
Attractions include Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, displaying vintage airplanes and more, and the various ski hills of the Catskill Mountains that are open during the winter months.
