Asheville

A Postcard From Asheville, NC
Asheville is our secluded getaway.  This part of North Carolina is such a comforting place to come and relax for the weekend or extended family visit.  With the Appalachian Trail so close we have access to miles of trail to explore.

About Asheville
Asheville is located in the green Blue Ridge Mountains.  A relaxed town, here you can raise your standard of living without increasing your workload. All you have to do is pack a picnic and head for the Blue Ridge Parkway. Charter a raft and brave some wicked whitewater. Or put on your hiking boots and climb to the top of Chimney Rock.  If history's an interest, stop by a general store that dates from 1891 for root beer and licorice. Tour a 17th-century Cherokee village.  Asheville is home to a thriving arts community, with a host of local galleries, drama companies, music rooms, and a symphony.  Whatever you prefer, you set the pace. Do as much, or as little as you like, just about any time you like. Asheville has a pleasing climate year-round-- mild summers and winters--and a spring and fall that linger to give you every opportunity to enjoy their showy display of color.

If you love golf and the mountain lifestyle, you will love Asheville, North Carolina. In addition to golfing any of the 18 different nearby golf courses, you can spend your time hiking the Appalachian Trail, whitewater rafting, fly-fishing, or snow skiing. For those who aspire to become an artist, Asheville offers many local galleries to show your work, or even painting classes to perfect your skills. Not an artist? Perhaps perusing the local antique shops located downtown will suit you. Everyone can admire the Biltmore House, America's largest private residence with 250 rooms, built in the late 1800's by the Vanderbilt Family. On a more reasonable scale, you will find many vacation homes and golf vacation rentals. No matter what your interests, you will enjoy the quaint downtown setting in Asheville.

Climate
At an elevation just over 2000', the climate in Asheville is definitely different from surrounding Southeastern cities.  Several towns in Western NC are considerably higher than Asheville - up to 5500' at Beech Mountain - so keep this in mind as elevation is one of the prime factors affecting weather.  During the summer temperatures are typically in the mid 80's, with only occasionally 90 or above, and scattered afternoon thunderstorms are likely. The cool forests, cold streams, and high mountain elevations offer reprise from the heat on rare occasions when it gets too hot to ride in the valleys. When cold fronts do move through, widespread heavy rain can occur, and influence from tropical systems - rain and wind - is possible toward late summer.

Things To Do
